President's reception for Librarians @ the Istana

President S R Nathan and Mrs Nathan hosted the first ever reception for over 200Librarians and information professionals at the Istana this evening. The President presented LAS Professional Service Awards to 3 recipients:

- Ms Lau Siew Kheng, currently a librarian specialist with the Digital Resources & Services division of NLB (pictured below, in the pink jacket)

- Mr R Ramachandran, currently the Executive Director of National Book Development Council
of Singapore (NBDCS) (pictured below, on the extreme left)

- Ms Manijeh Namazie, formerly a librarian with National University of Singapore and is now retired (pictured below, partially hidden behind Mr Ramachandran)

To be honest, I could only recognise Mr Ramachandran as he was the Deputy Chief Executive of NLB when I first joined the organisation, and till today, I was unaware of the contributions of the 2 ladies. So it was great for exemplar librarians like them to be recognised for their contributions.

We were advised not to bring cameras into the Istana (but mobile phones were greenlighted but subject to judicious use), so I felt rather handicapped as I could only use my phone cam to record this rare occasion.

This picture below shows LAS President, Ms Ngian Lek Choh presenting a painting to President S R Nathan as a token of appreciation:

This was taken before the first batch of guests arrived at the Istana. That's my NLO colleague Sharmini in the foreground and she was the emcee for this event:
